The SA Pathology Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Directorate (MID) provides laboratory and clinical consultative services in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases as well as teaching and undertaking research. The MID Consultant’s role is to support the microbiology laboratory services provided to South Australian patients and contribute to overall SA Pathology test development and strategies for optimising the diagnostic Microbiology service. The Consultant will provide advice on appropriate testing and interpretation of results, communicate significant results to requestors, provide advice on management and contribute to the provision of inpatient and outpatient services in Infectious Diseases. The appointee will contribute to the provision of high-quality educational programs in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to under-graduates and post-graduates in Medicine and other disciplines and will contribute to ongoing audits and educational activities related to antibiotic use. The appointee will contribute to the research and development goals of the Department by developing high quality research programs in basic and/or clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent required. Must have specialist Medical registration in Australia: Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
