The Job

An opportunity has arisen for a technically savvy individual to join our Field Service team as a Marine Technician. This role will be based out of our Auckland branch and will report to the Field Service Supervisor. The successful candidate will ideally have a diesel engine or a marine engineering qualification and will offer experience in the marine industry. This is a full time permanent position typically working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is required to work longer hours at times along with some travel out of town. A competitive hourly rate and access to a tool of the trade vehicle form part of the package.

Along with this, the Marine Technician will be responsible for:

  • Providing safe, timely and high quality service to marine customers in the greater Auckland area
  • The installation of a range of marine equipment such as outboard engines, water makers, small marine gensets, electronics and other plumbing equipment on a variety of marine vessels
  • Managing the functionality and safety of a range of working equipment on customer vessels
  • Ensuring vessels are running at optimum levels and all on-board systems are in good working order
  • Rebuilding, maintaining and repairing high horsepower engines
  • Monitor and update maintenance records and have oversight of the spare parts required for customers
  • Completing a range of electrical and control system repairs, including diagnosing faults
  • Conducting boat rigging and testing tasks from a range of marine sites within the Auckland region
  • Providing technical assistance to both customers and the Penske team of technicians
  • Completing job cards and warranty paperwork as per company guidelines
  • Assist with the ongoing development and training of technicians within the team in order to extend their abilities

About You

In order to be successful in this role, you will offer:

  • Previous work experience within the Marine, and/or industrial engine industries
  • Trade Qualification - diesel mechanic / marine engineer or similar
  • Sound knowledge and experience working with diesel engines; ideally with MTU, Detroit, Cummins or CAT product lines
  • An ability to model safe operating practices and adhere to company safety guidelines and expectations
  • An ability to understand and grasp technical product information and provide product resolution
  • The confidence to develop outstanding relationships with a range of customers, and represent the Penske brand with high levels of professionalism
  • A passionate, sociable and engaging personality
  • An ability to think differently and to consistently deliver on customer service
  • Resilience, determination and high standards of work
