Job Description

The opportunity 

Lead and manage the Utility Locations Unit in the deployment of utilities detection and location services including sourcing and interpretation of utilities information, in partnership with government and industry, to minimise technical risk associated with the location and depiction of public utility services on TfNSW infrastructure projects.

Key accountabilities 

  • Model exceptional leadership in technical survey service delivery by implementing change, developing and inspiring people, providing direction, while continuing to implement more efficient, innovative and safe practices. 
  • Provide expert timely technical advice and services to Senior and Executive management of TfNSW to drive effective decision making in relation to TfNSW infrastructure projects.
  • Lead and motivate others to cooperate in the adoption of agreed strategies and in the achievement of objectives where there can be conflicting interests and opinions. Continuously improving utility location service delivery in a changing and evolving organisational environment with close interdependent technical and project teams in a matrix environment
  • Ensure that TfNSW is an informed purchaser and provider of utility location services by reviewing the output of internal and external resources and maintaining and auditing a panel of competent utility location suppliers.
  • Build and promote TfNSW’s reputation as a technical leader in utility location, by identifying, developing and applying best practice locational methodologies through collaboration with industry to increase engagement from conception to delivery and improve the private sector’s capacity to deliver cost effective products and solutions to meet Government requirements.
  • Manage and ensure projects are compliant with TfNSW policies and specifications and NSW Government regulatory and statutory requirements, including WHS and Environmental legislation and improve work efficiencies by verifying the application of standards and procedures and participating in quality improvement processes.

About you

  • You will have experience managing and delivering quality and industry standards within a high volume, time critical, constantly changing operational environment, with conflicting priorities, interests with resource restraints and budgetary limitations which significantly impact ‘on-demand obligations and TfNSW programs.
  • Championing Surveying as a critical activity, you will keep abreast of current and emerging best practice, legislative and technology changes to provide timely and accurate advice which impact survey operations across TfNSW projects.
  • Managing a large volume of work, priorities, interests and deadlines, often required within very tight timeframes you will operate effectively under conditions of resource restraints. 
  • You will be experienced in continuously improving utility location service delivery in a changing and evolving organisational environment with close interdependent technical and project teams in a matrix environment.
