Air Canada currently sponsors various Defined Benefits (DB), Hybrid and Defined Contributions (DC) pension plans for its employees in Canada. For employees in the UK and US, where most foreign employees are located, Air Canada also sponsors DB and DC plans. Other employees worldwide participate in DC or DB plans, government plans or other various pension arrangements. The pension plans’ administration is currently outsourced with third-party providers except for some foreign employees. 

 

Air Canada is looking for a Manager, Pensions to join its pension team in downtown Montreal in a full-time permanent position.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationship with third-party providers of pension administration services for DB and DC plans 
  • Act as a committee member and secretary for the pension committees: prepare, attend and chair meetings, action any follow-up items, and act as main point of contact for pension committee members
  • Identify and recommend changes necessary to improve pension administration or services to plan members, or to comply with changes to the collective agreements, plan provisions or pension legislation
  • Coordinate pension administration projects with third-party providers and other Air Canada departments and perform testing to ensure success and on-time delivery
  • Recommend communication strategy and develop ad-hoc pension communications for plan members 
  • Ensure pension information provided to plan members reflects pension plan rules, collective agreements, Air Canada policies and legislation
  • Support labor relations department in union negotiations and to resolve pension-related individual grievances 
  • Interpret, explain and enforce pension legislation and pension plan rules with all Air Canada departments ensuring consistency in application and in employee communications
  • Daily administration activities and help in answering plan members questions and escalations
  • Support in various special projects 
  • Coach, develop and train junior staff

Qualifications

  • 10 to 15 years of experience in pension administration 
  • University degree in actuarial science, administration, finance or related field
  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • Must be a team player with ability to work closely with diverse groups and working styles 
  • Highly motivated, dynamic, creative, and strategic thinking
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the country of interest, at the time any offer of employment is made and seeking any required work permits/visas or other authorizations which may be required is the sole responsibility of the candidates applying for this position.

  • Attendance in the office could be required, subject to Air Canada policy
