Job Description

About us

Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do – and we do a lot. We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling. The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW – you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

The Division

The Greater Sydney Division is redefining integrated transport choices to improve the lives of customers and communities, making Greater Sydney a better place to live, work and play. We have the single biggest place making opportunity at Transport in the coming years, reshaping Greater Sydney into a metropolis of three cities – Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parklands City - whilst also overseeing the Greater Sydney region.

The Opportunity

Right now, we have an exceptional opportunity for a strategic and savvy Manager Operational Policy (Temporary full time until April 2023) to join the Operational Policy team and lead teams to develop and deliver Maritime Division operational policy including identifying and driving improvements to enhance the reputation of the organisation as an effective and efficient maritime service delivery agency.

The Manager Operational Policy has the following day to day responsibilities:

Lead, develop and manage a team of five focused on reviewing and development of operational policy to support the delivery of an efficient and effective organization

Establish and maintain a collaborative process aimed at engaging peers across the Maritime Division to identify, prioritise and schedule operational policy review and development, identify potential legislative and regulatory changes to enable service delivery improvements

Lead the implementation of the Maritime operational policy framework through development, approval and publishing of operational policy to support the delivery of boating safety regulator related services, to guide and inform staff and to align with the broader organisational direction.

About you

You are a self-motivated and highly organised Manager Operational Policy with a strong commercial acumen looking for an opportunity to influence Maritime’s position against key significant legislation.

The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach and be empowered to support and lead a small team to successfully delivery policies.

You will hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent extensive experience in an operational policy, project, regulatory or service delivery environment with an understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks.
