This is an exciting time to consider your next move to the Ministry for the Environment, to help New Zealand create a flourishing environment for every generation, by leading performance monitoring for the Climate Change Commission and Environmental Protection Authority.

The Manager Crown Entity Performance will lead the Ministry's approach to performance monitoring for these Crown Entities, ensuring high quality oversight of performance including governance arrangements. This will be done primarily through supporting planning and direction setting, monitoring entity and Board performance, and supporting Ministers with Board appointments.

Reporting to the Director, Partnerships and Customers, a key focus of this role will be leading the development and implementation of a high-quality and innovative framework to guide the Ministry's work. This will cover ownership and performance advice and all aspects of governance for Crown entities, along with accountability and funding arrangements. You will also be responsible for providing advice and support for a range of other Ministerially appointed bodies that fall under MFE's administration.

You will be looked to for strategic leadership on best practice approaches and processes to ensure high-quality analysis and advice. You know exactly what excellence looks like and can confidently lead people and provide expert guidance on entity performance using your extensive technical knowledge, analytical approaches to provide well-rounded, evidence-based advice, and experience.

You will lead a small team to deliver the regular cycle of activities that supports Ministers in overseeing performance of Crown Entities. You will assist in supporting senior leadership to build a productive three-way relationship between the Minister, the Crown Entity and the Ministry.

You will provide technical leadership, and build capability in Crown entity monitoring core processes across the team through coaching and mentoring and setting direction for the team. You are known for getting the best out of people. Your collaborative working style enables you to work with multiple teams across the Ministry to foster key working relationships at various levels, aided by your ability to always think about the bigger picture.

You are dynamic and passionate with a reputation for excellence and delivery together with strong political nous. You will have:

• Significant experience in Crown monitoring with a strong focus on governance and performance monitoring   
• Proven experience in providing ownership and performance advice to Ministers
• Deep knowledge and expertise of best practice approaches in entity performance
• An understanding of Te Ao Māori
• Exceptionally solution-focused with the ability to present ideas and propositions
• A talent for issues management and problem solving
