What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Head of Network Design, the Logistics Design Manager works as a subject matter expert in the senior central operations team, responsible for re-designing the Hermes Operational Network to meet future capacity, cost and service requirements and to deliver short-term operational improvements and savings. 

 

The role will be responsible for full ownership of designs from cradle-to-grave – i.e. from idea generation and early concept evaluation and prioritisation through to stakeholder engagement, business case approval and detailed design and planning for deployment. This will include major capital investment projects and changes to network infrastructure, product routing, automation, workplan, layouts, equipment, systems, processing and handling techniques.

 

The Logistics Design Manager will be the conduit between central design and the operations teams and ensure alignment of all activity with strategic and commercial direction and IT capabilities.

Day to day you’ll be:

  • Managing a multi-million-pound design project portfolio and roadmap to transform the operational network to meet future business and service objectives
  • To work with internal stakeholders within the business in order to define and deliver the Target Operating Model. Stakeholders will include IT, Operations, Commercial, Engineering, HR, Finance etc.
  • Collaborating with functional leads and technical experts to identify and quantify opportunity areas for further evaluation to improve cost, capacity and service.
  • Defining a forward plan of prioritised design activities and initiatives and managing activities to ensure delivery of the plan.
  • Quantitative and qualitative comparison of options using appropriate financial and operational analytical techniques to support informed decision making.
  • Effective communication with Sponsors and all stakeholders to ensure understanding and buy-in to the recommendations.
  • Liaising between operations and commercial colleagues to ensure a balanced view on quality, service and capabilities as well as cost.
  • Ensuring that all design work is compliant with legislation and Hermes H&S policy
  • Calculating budget levels based on historical data, analysis and expert assessment.
  • Providing Hermes with new innovative solutions and ensuring these are aligned and collectively deliver the strategic direction and Target Operating Model.
  • To be a senior subject matter expert who based on understanding processes, capacity, cost, productivity and cost-drivers can make data-driven and informed decisions.
  • To be able to multi-task and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • To be able to work autonomously and be accountable for all works they are leading / managing.
  • To be able to work at pace and deliver projects & solutions effectively and in the timescales dictated by the business.
  • To be able to find solutions to complex problems and to have a ‘can-do’ attitude to their work.
  • To be able to produce comprehensive business cases and to use data and logic to define best solution and to be able to justify capital expenditure.

 

 

Essential Skills & Experience Required:

  • Degree qualified (STEM subject/logistics)
  • 5+ years’ experience in logistics management or operational design/improvement
  • Full clean UK driving license
  • Experience of logistics operations and developing operational improvements.
  • Experience of project planning and managing multiple projects successfully with demonstrable ROI.
  • Understanding of supply chain and related processes
  • Experience of influencing strategic direction at board level,
  • Demonstrable experience of leading a strategic vision and managing senior people against it
  • Experience of operational cost, commercial profitability and P&L
