Department Overview:
The ICG Legal Department provides global legal coverage in relation to Citi’s Institutional Client Group (“ICGâ€) business activities. These activities include corporate and institutional lending, investment banking, capital markets, treasury and trade solutions, private banking and markets and securities related products and services.
The ICG Infrastructure and Cross Product Initiatives Legal team (“ICPI Legalâ€) has been recently established to partner alongside the specialist product advisory ICG Legal teams on cross product matters and to provide focused coverage to ICG’s Risk and Controls Department. Amongst other things, the ICPI Legal team’s focus is upon the design and implementation of various ICG-wide regulatory, control and governance driven initiatives and business change projects (including those arising from the Fed/OCC Consent Orders); ICG Legal infrastructure and legal project management; ICG cross product regulatory and thematic legal advice; ICG legal entity booking models; and ICG Legal technology and electronic solutions.
Responsibilities:
An opportunity has arisen in the ICPI Legal team for a prominent supporting role in the administration and management of certain key legal projects within the ICG legal cross-product risk and control infrastructure space. In particular, the successful candidate will support ICG Legal teams in the procurement, review and approval of legal opinions used to establish the legal Well-Founded Basis (“WFBâ€) standard for the purpose of Citi’s regulatory capital reporting in relation to derivatives and securities financing transactions. Responsibilities are expected to evolve over time having regard for regulatory, commercial and technological developments impacting on ICG, but initial responsibilities will include:
Working across ICG Legal to coordinate robust, timely and appropriate engagement from the ICG Legal teams in the risk management and governance processes, including engagement with the global WFB Working Group;
Ensuring co-ordination with relevant stakeholders in completing the monthly, quarterly and annual control processes in place, on a global and regional basis and timely escalation of any issues;
Collating relevant data and evidence in assisting with internal audit validations which are performed routinely on the control processes carried out by ICPI Legal;
Supporting the implementation of new and enhanced risk management infrastructure, including the development of technology, across ICG Legal geographies and products to ensure efficient and effective reporting and audit trail in relation to WFB legal opinion maintenance;
Working with internal and external counsel to ensure appropriate coverage in WFB legal opinions and facilitating engagement of external local counsel where appropriate.
Knowledge/Experience:
Experience in banking and finance and broad knowledge of commercial contracts and master agreements
Familiarity with legal services and basic legal contract principles
Experience in a support capacity in managing projects and tracking information for accurate record keeping
Proven track record in delivering results in a dynamic and changing environment
Experience working in a major bank preferred
Skills:
Strong communication skills (both written and oral), managing stakeholders at senior levels
Ability to think laterally to find solutions
Self-driven and ability to manage and deliver projects
Highly organised
Good business judgement and commercial aptitude
Working knowledge of PC operating systems, particularly Excel
Competencies:
The ability to work in an organised and disciplined manner is a key requirement of the job.
Strong project management skills and attention to detail
Education:
Bachelors/University degree or equivalent experience
