Are you looking for a legal career which is rewarding and where you can really make a difference? Well we’re looking for a talented and self-starting Legal Counsel to come and join our Corporate & Customers Legal Team!

The Customers business unit carries out a range of activities from supplying electricity and gas to commercial and residential customers, to delivering energy services solutions and the Corporate business unit is responsible for various internal functions including employment, litigation, supply chain, corporate finance, transactions and board support.

As a Legal Counsel, your work is critical to the success of the business with responsibilities which include: 
 

• Provide timely, preventive and commercially relevant legal advice on contractual, transactional, statutory and regulatory issues
• Work closely with Business Partners within the relevant areas of the business to understand their objectives and business drivers and to identify current and future legal requirements
• Support the Heads of Legal in actively developing and managing relationships with board members, shareholders, affiliates and internal and external stakeholders
• Provide high quality, effective and efficient legal advice on company law, corporate governance, and legal compliance activities, including working with the Company Secretarial team and Policy & Regulation in relation to company and energy industry compliance
• Lead on reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial contracts and providing practical and commercially focussed legal advice as well as identifying practical mitigating key risks for the purchase of good and services across the supply chain
• Develop and maintain a strong and up to date understanding of the energy industry in order to provide practical and commercially focused legal advice on an informed basis

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you don’t have to live in London and the South East. As long as you’re able to travel to the office 2/3 days a week to collaborate with your team and stakeholders, you can be based anywhere in the UK. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

What we're looking for

You’ll be confident collaborating with the complete range of seniority across the business and experienced in planning and managing complex legal matters simultaneously with responsive, succinct and pragmatic day-to-day advice. 

You’ll have a proactive, can-do approach and strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify risk, risk mitigations and present suitable options to the business balancing risk and reward. You’ll also have great attention to detail, providing highly pragmatic legal advice in the context of an established, commercial and operational business.
