Join us as a Lead Cloud Software Engineer

• This is an opportunity for a driven Software Engineer to take on an exciting new career challenge in Cloud Data, Analytics and Machine Learning
• You’ll be designing and developing high-volume, high-performance and high-availability Data Ecosystem using Google Cloud Platform
• It’s a chance to develop your existing technical skills and build a wide network as you liaise with key stakeholders to understand the objectives and requirements

What you'll do

You'll be a leader, defining design patterns and applying modern software engineering principles and methodologies to design, develop, test and maintain Data Pipelines, Storage, Compute and API layers to support NatWest Markets' Capital Markets, Sales and Trading business; driving our data led and digital ambitions in this crucial area. You'll also work with other big data teams to align to the bank’s architectural direction and principles, and make sure that the applications and services being built adhere to them.

It’ll also be your responsibility to:

• Drive a culture of engineering, delivery and SRE excellence in the team
• Provide robust technical solutions to the challenging arena of complex financial data storage, retrieval and analytics
• Design and develop reusable libraries and APIs for use across the bank
• Spearhead innovation, encourage a 'fail fast' mentality in the team
• Design and develop software that is amenable for a greater automation of build, release testing and deployment process on all environments
• Drive the reuse and sharing of platform components and technologies within the software engineering teams
• Deliver software components to enable the delivery of platforms, applications and services
• Write unit and integration tests, in automated test environments to ensure code quality

The skills you'll need

You’ll need a background leading data focused software engineering, Data Warehouse/Lake design and architecture paired with expert level experience in Google Cloud serverless components such as GKE, DataFlow and Big Query. You'll need experience of developing software in a SOA or micro-services paradigm, experience of API federation and expert level knowledge of Google Cloud data ecosystems and Google Cloud serverless components, as well as sales and trading analytics.

In addition, you'll need an understanding of how to translate product and business requirements into technical solutions, alongside the ability to understand and support, modify and maintain systems and code developed by other engineering teams.

You’ll also need:

• Development experience in more than one programming language
• Experience of using industry recognised frameworks and development tooling
• A background of implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, availability and performance
• Experience of test-driven development alongside the use of automated test frameworks, mocking and stubbing and unit testing tools
• Knowledge of the key phases of the software delivery lifecycle and established software development methodologies
• Experience of working with code repositories, bug tracking tools and wikis, as well as designing or implementing APIs
