Job Description Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join the Debt Products Legal team to help with restructuring and insolvency matters, principally working with the Business Support Unit (BSU) and Recoveries. BSU handles Commercial Banking customers in financial difficulty from SMEs to Large Corporates and leads all aspects of restructuring activity. The Recoveries team runs the final recoveries processes for those customers which are not successfully restructured. Customers under management of BSU and/or Recoveries may have a range of banking products, including loans made available under government lending schemes.

Please note this is a part time role of 4 days per week and 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

The salary for this role is £65,320 - £91970 (pro-rated) and can be based out of Edinburgh, Bristol or London

Your accountabilities will include;

  • Operate as a specialist legal adviser in respect of restructuring and insolvency matters;
  • Act as a source of professional expertise for partners and assist with the development of policy and procedures;
  • Provide technical legal input to support delivery of transactions and projects in response to Legal and Regulatory change and continuous improvement;
  • Provide support to our business areas on Legal Risk Management using the relevant risk management policy framework;
  • Contribute to reporting of legal or governance issues within our area, inputting to recommended solutions as required;
  • Build trust and maintain internal network and relationships to provide appropriate professional advice to achieve the Group’s objectives.
  • Positively influence the appropriate use of Legal Panel arrangements, in particular the selection, instruction and supervision of panel law firms and managing exceptions;
  • Challenge and influence our partners, and deputise for senior colleagues where appropriate;
  • Deal in a consistent manner with sophisticated matters according to scale, scope and specialism;
  • Collaborate with the other key legal areas within Commercial Banking Legal, both to support our business and to positively influence our community as a great place to work.
  • be agile and keen to upskill and willing to support legal, regulatory or other projects across CB Legal as well as wider CB Legal teams, products and businesses as appropriate.

What we’ll need from you;

  • A current practising certificate in a relevant jurisdiction;
  • Experience and a good appreciation of the legal and regulatory framework and market practices applying to commercial lending, restructuring and insolvency;
  • A good understanding of the conduct challenges and external developments in the treatment of customers in financial difficulty across a range of customer segments (SMEs through to Large Corporates);
  • Post-qualifying legal experience in the above areas of expertise.
