 The Opportunity 

As the Land Use Planner within the West & Central Land Use Assessment Team of the Greater Sydney Division, your role is responsible for coordinating and preparing land use and transport planning advice to planning authorities and private developers for land use planning and development proposals. 

The role will suit an urban planning professional with demonstrated experience in roles related to the development application assessment, Urban and Regional Planning and Transport Planning processes. We will also consider people from other backgrounds with relevant skills and experience in NSW Government planning legislation and the Roads Act 1993.

Analytical thinking and an understanding of the NSW planning system are key to the role. You will have the ability to review multiple development applications, in a time critical environment and assess their impacts – this requires high level problem-solving, planning and prioritising, creativity, and a focus on achieving balanced outcomes for transport customers, working collaboratively with internal colleagues.

 Some key responsibilities of the role include:

• Ensure Transport for NSW meets its statutory obligations in responding to development consent authorities under the requirements of the Environmental Planning and Assessment (EP&A) Act and the Roads Act in respect to land use plans, development applications and proposals by adhering to the required timeframes.
• Ensure that land use development does not compromise network safety or efficiency objectives and identify appropriate measures to resolve potential conflicts.
• Ensure the relevant stakeholders understand Transport for NSW requirements for land use plans and development consents by liaising and negotiating with TfNSW staff, State Government (transport, environment and planning agencies), Council officers, and public and private organisations.
• Work collaboratively with other regions to build a consistent approach to land use planning assessment and management.
• Contribute to the development of strategies, to integrate existing and future land uses as part of transport infrastructure and services.
