Lab Owner Responsibilities

Site Lab Manager has overall responsibility for ensuring all lab managers and personnel follow lab safety protocol, regardless of business unit, and drives optimization effort across BUs to maximize utilization of the lab areas. The lab manager has the authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts or conditions when observed, require corrective action, and proactively improve conditions in the lab areas. Issues that the site lab manager is unable to independently resolve should be escalated first to the Site Lab Committee representative, then to the Executive Lab Sponsor for resolution or further escalation to the AET. 

More detailed responsibilities include:

1. Lead Site Lab Committee Meetings as necessary.
2. Be an advocate for safety and efficiency in the lab.
3. Read, understand, and enforce the top Lab Safety Rules and the requirements of the Global HSSE Employee Handbook.
4. Drive standardized, best practices and processes across all lab locations on site.
5. Communicate expectations to BU lab owners.
6. Schedule and perform joint lab inspections/audits with the Site EHS Representative.
7. Lead optimization efforts for maximum utilization of space, power, and cooling.
8. Engage Facilities for installation of work benches, lighting and equipment installations, and for space modification and other building-related needs in the lab areas.
9. Work with Facilities to change Lab Ownership or Lab Name.
10. Use Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to understand potential safety hazards/recommendations for common tasks in the lab. Work with your Site EHS Representative to develop and update JSAs when changes occur.
