Job Description

We are looking for a Host/Kayak Guide/Diver to join our Discovery Centre Team in Milford Sound. Working in a World Heritage Site, you will be responsible for welcoming and guiding guests through our Underwater Observatory, a unique experience in New Zealand. You will also guide small groups of Kayakers into Milford Sound for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Previous work experience as a Kayak Guide, minimum of 1 year in a commercial environment
  • Diving experience and qualification to a minimum of Padi Rescue Diver or equivalent
  • Confident public speaker, with excellent spoken English.
  • Able to listen well, follow guidelines, and take instruction.
  • Strong work ethic, and a commitment to Health & Safety
  • Ability to think on your feet and problem solve under pressure. The successful candidate must be able to work in a team but also be productive unsupervised.
  • If you have worked in a small but supportive environment, enjoy the outdoors, like the idea of living remotely, and have experience working with customers then this is an amazing opportunity.
  • You must also have the right to work in New Zealand for at least 12 months

The role is all about ensuring our Milford Sound guests have an outstanding experience.  We have a lot of fun, but we also work very hard, keeping our environment clean, safe, and welcoming at all times.

In return, you will receive excellent training, uniform, dive equipment allowance, your own room in subsidised accommodation, and access to a fully stocked communal kitchen. We work a roster of 10 days on and 4 days off to give you the opportunity to explore this stunning region.

Southern Discoveries is a premium tourism company dedicated to sharing some of New Zealand’s most iconic scenery and extraordinary experiences with the world. The company offers a range of cruises, as well as kayaking and an underwater observatory in Milford Sound, with coach and scenic flight transfers from Queenstown and Te Anau.  In Queenstown, we operate cruises on Lake Wakatipu, and also specialise in private charters, conference and incentive packages. The company operates a number of retail outlets in Queenstown, Te Anau, and Milford Sound
