Job Description

ABOUT WOODLANDS

Woodlands Dog Retreat is a unique off-lead free-run experience for dogs that operates Monday to Friday. Set in a beautiful pine forest near Bethells Beach, Woodlands provides dogs with over 5 acres to run and play in their natural habitat. We are a small private facility who believe freedom to socialise in an open outdoor environment is essential to a dog's well-being and calm state of mind.

We practice calm self-control and do not allow high intensity controlling play. This results in focused dogs that are respectful to each other and their trainer. It also builds confidence and good socialization skills.

A large indoor covered area provides shelter during bad weather as well as a great place for quiet afternoon downtime & specialized training. Mature fruit trees offer shade in the hotter months with 2 pools for dogs to cool off and have some fun splash time.

The Role:

We are looking for a Junior Dog Handler that understands Canine body language & balanced training methods.  You will ideally have a minimum of 1 year of industry experience in dog handling. While we will provide training, you should be confident handling dogs of all sizes, calmly and effectively.  But above all else, you will be passionate about dogs, have strong empathy and a kind disposition.

You must have a calm temperament, enjoy working as a team, be honest & trustworthy, love the outdoors, be physically fit and have great customer service skills.

The role involves handling dogs in a pack, using our indoor agility course, ball games, pack walks, confidence building, taking photographs of all the dogs and doing pick ups & drop offs 2-3 days a week.  You must have a full clean full license and be a confident driver.

The role is approx 40 hrs per week with more hours being added once you are doing pick-ups and drop offs.

This would suit someone with outdoor day care experience and/or dog-walking experience.

TO APPLY:

Please send a brief cover letter and your CV to info@woodlandsdogretreat.co.nz

Please do NOT apply if you do not have the relevant dog handling experience required as described above.
