Job Introduction

BBC News NI is recruiting a number of journalists to work in our Digital News and Radio Current Affairs departments.

The radio role will involve working across a number of programmes, including Good Morning Ulster, Evening Extra and Talkback as well as radio news bulletins. 

The digital posts will work with the digital team which produces text and video content for the BBC News NI website and its social media platforms.

Role Responsibility

Journalists (Digital)

Writing concise and accurate news stories

Demonstrating the ability to exercise strong editorial judgement while under pressure

Producing original journalism, with a particular emphasis on content that resonates with audiences that  might not usually connect with the BBC.

Producing and editing video, audio, stills and graphics

Displaying a thorough understanding of the editorial benefits and dangers of social media and an ability to interact with the audience on those platforms

Liaising daily with teams in radio and television to promote an integrated approach across all platforms.

Broadcast Journalists (Radio)

Contributing original stories, researching and producing ideas

Handling audio and video  

Casting compelling discussions and debates

Working constructively and proactively as a member of a team with effective planning and organising skills

Using applications such as Dalet and Cinegy

Showing the ability to record audio and package material

The Ideal Candidate

They will have experience of finding and delivering original stories, an excellent grasp of the BBC’s editorial guidelines, journalism law and a sound knowledge of politics, current affairs and ongoing issues in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and further afield.

Band: C 

Contract type: 2 Permanent ( 1 x full time and 1 x 3 days) 2 FTC till July 22 ( 1 x Fulltime  and 1x 4 days) 1 FTC till Sept 22 ( 17.5hrs) and 1 FTC till Nov 22 (Full time)
