BBC Arabic is the largest BBC language service, providing news, current affairs and programmes on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The output is modern in style and outlook and adheres to BBC values of accuracy and impartiality. It has broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures, research and plan deployments including preparing risk assessments, sharing editorial guidance, fixing logistics and overall budgeting

We are recruiting a journalist with planning experience to join our team in Cairo.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Newsgathering & Planning Editor, your role is to help plan news coverage and specific story projects in the newsroom.  You will assist in the commissioning of stories from Arabic Correspondents and stringers. You will be required to plan next day events and upcoming news stories.  Due to the nature of the work, you will be required to work flexibly (including weekends). You may also be deployed at short notice, including hostile environments.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist, with a demonstrable background in planning and television journalism. You will be a fluent modern standard Arabic speaker and writer, with a good command of English. You must have an excellent knowledge of Arabic and international news and current affairs, together with a good understanding of BBC Arabic output and audiences. A broad understanding of production techniques across various platforms is important. It is essential that you have experience of planning next day and longer term news coverage with teams overseas. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of planning overseas deployments, both editorially and logistically. You have proven creative ability to identify, discuss and promote human interest stories that work on TV, Radio, online and digital Platforms.
