At BBC Monitoring, we track, translate, summarise and analyse local media sources to make sense of what is happening on the ground around the world. Our international perspective means we keep across broadcast, press, social and digital media sources in multiple languages, especially where reliable news and information are in short supply. Our extensive operation enables us to provide insightful and reliable coverage of political, economic, security and media news. Our round-the-clock monitoring of TV, radio, press, digital media and news agencies is also provided to a wide range of users, including commercial clients.
This role requires a combination of good Persian (Farsi) an ability to write well in excellent idiomatic English, regional knowledge, news awareness, familiarity with media sources, as well as digital and research skills. Working as part of a team, you will ensure that BBCM creates products that are insightful, relevant and deliver high value to users. On a day-to-day basis, you will contribute to the BBC’s coverage of Iran by monitoring local media for key developments, coming up with new angles, ensuring accuracy and adding context as well as integrating video, images and data into BBCM\'s output.
You\'ll use a variety of tools and techniques to mine the media for news, identify emerging trends and narratives and contribute to advance planning for coverage of key events.
You will have an excellent knowledge of Persian (Farsi) and a high standard of written English, as well as a thorough understanding of news and media developments in Iran and the wider Middle-East. You’ll have experience as a journalist with expertise in the local media environment, including social media, and an ability to write about developments in idiomatic English in a way that is engaging and relevant to different users and on different platforms. You’ll be willing to embrace new ways of working and new technology to find and analyse information. With strong interpersonal skills, you’ll work closely with other colleagues within your team and across the BBC.
A good working knowledge of other regional languages, for example Sorani Kurdish, Azeri, Baluchi, Arabic or Hebrew would be an advantage.Â
