The Gore District Council (GDC) is one of three local authorities in Southland, the southernmost province of New Zealand.

The GDC looks after the Gore District, which covers a population of about 12,400 with two main towns in the district are Gore and Mataura, with smaller settlements at Pukerau, Waikaka and Mandeville.

About the role :

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership working closely with key decision-makers across departments to identify, advise, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions.

It will be critical to ensure the efficient operation and security of the council’s network, databases, and equipment.

Not only will you be responsible for managing and maintaining the IT network infrastructure, but you will also be involved in key projects to ensure the successful delivery of the council's Information Technology strategy.

This is a challenging leadership position requiring strong commercial and stakeholder relationship experience.

About you :

You will bring proven leadership experience which will be complemented by your strong technical ability and willingness to be hands-on to ensure the delivery of key technology solutions.

You will be passionate about helping people, with an excellent customer focus and the ability to engage staff across all levels of the organisation.

The ability to relate to a wide variety of people will be critical to the success of this role.

To be successful you will need :

  • Confidence, credibility, and strong leadership skills to build relationships with the IT team, management, vendors, and key stakeholders
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions and effectively manage people and workstreams
  • Experience in IT infrastructure planning and deployment
  • Good technical knowledge of across Cyber Security, Microsoft Office, Windows Servers, VM Ware, and SQL databases
  • Working knowledge of ITIL framework and GIS applications such as MapInfo would be advantageous.
