The continuing operation of our IT services, while ensuring that our processes offer value for money,  sustainability and resilience, is a mission critical objective within BBC News.

We are seeking  IT Asset Managers to manage the provision of core IT technology for a sub-division of BBC News, bringing sound IT knowledge and experience to the role. Responsible for controlling the IT spend across your designated business unit within BBC News you will be managing to ensuring compliance with BBC policy, appropriate application of exceptions where there is valid business justification and delivering savings across the range of commodities expenditure.

Role Responsibility

The role is responsible the lifecycle management of IT assets and the operation of key controls in your designated business unit. You will be responsible for the operation of key controls in your area. You will be the escalation point for user’s IT problems and issues, which cannot be solved through the standard process. You will ensure compliance with pan-BBC and News Group policy, and ensure that exceptions received the appropriate level of authorisation.

  • To be accountable for IT spend within your designated business unit as well as auditing, managing and tracking assets.
  • To be responsible for communicating BBC IT strategy and policy within your business unit
  • To work with senior stakeholders in forecasting the IT technology needs of your business unit
  • To be the lead approver for IT spend in your business unit

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Sound understanding of IT, with extensive practical experience of asset management of IT equipment and systems.
  • Ability to understand and translate business needs, and identify suitable IT technology to meet these.
  • Ability to translate complex IT language into usable concepts for senior stakeholders.
  • A sound understanding of the user administration and asset management processes.
  • Works effectively with key stakeholders within the designated business unit, ensuring an awareness of specific software and hardware each area of the business require.
  • Knowledge of a range of account issues experienced by users (e.g. large mailboxes, shared area access rights, shared folders, etc.)
  • Experience of working in a large matrix organisation providing highly proactive support service, using defined business and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills both orally and in writing and ability to target content for the audience.
  • Able to deal with role-specific information quickly and accurately, identifying errors and investigating problems
  • Able to communicate with confidence and able to respond to challenge with clear arguments
  • Able to create a culture where processes and policies are understood and followed

Desirable

  • A working knowledge of the BBC’s business and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Recent project experience

Contract:  6 month Fixed Term Contract
