The Opportunity
As the embedded engineer for BT’s introductory offering in Healthcare, you will make a mark not only on the end user experience for older age care/ independent living but also on the credibility of BT Digital Healthcare in the industry. You will design, develop, and deliver the ecosystem of embedded devices and systems, interfacing with strategic partners and working in a small squad, made up of a product manager, deigners, engineers, and data scientists, that will be wholly accountable for success or failure of the proposition start up style. You will have the opportunity to consult on, and contribute to, BT’s “Connected Care†roadmap of generic IoT and medical devices that drive monitoring and insights for the healthcare sector.
What you'll be doing
You will be solely responsible for developing the software for an IoT Gateway Device, which collects data from a network of generic wireless sensors (non-medical) and reports it to AWS. You will have a good grasp of wireless protocols and IoT systems and architecture from Board, Bootloader and Firmware level to Operating Systems and Cloud Applications and Services.
The Gateway is a Linux based platform which is built using Buildroot. The main application is written in Go, and controls and monitors Zigbee or DECT-ULE senors and collects data. The application also communicates with an AWS IoT platform over MQTT for reporting the sensor data and uses features such as IoT Jobs, Shadow and Defender to control and monitor the Gateway. The Gateway also runs a number of other applications, which are developed in C/C++, and you will also develop and support these applications.
You may also develop AWS Lambda functions in Python, which run on the AWS IoT platform and are used to control the Gateway.
Who you are
• Software development in Go, C, and C++; or experience in C and C++ and willingness to train in Go before beginning work
• Software development for Linux based systems; and building Linux/IoT distributions, using Buildroot or similar (e.g., Yocto)
• IoT Edge device development, with a good grasp of network protocols (HTTP, MQTT, TCP/IP, TLS); experience with IoT hardware and platforms, and mobile networks such as LTE and Wi-Fi
• ZigBee/DECT-ULE wireless protocols, or similar (e.g., BLE)
• AWS services such as IoT Core, S3, Lambda, and DynamoDB; experience developing AWS Lambda functions in Python nice to have
