Job Description

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About this role

The Dynamic Infrastructure (DI) team is the largest team in Networks. DI manages our infrastructure estate including our core network, global network and data centres.

There is continuous transformation in this area driven by fantastic new technology and managing the cost to run our network. With this team comes a great pride in our BT network – we carry our emergency service 999 calls, 95% of all mobile traffic and connecting all our customers across the UK and Globally. Our DI team is geographically spread, and many are on-the-road engineers which provides a great communications challenge.

We need to make sure we’re telling our brilliant and compelling story that sets out our technology agenda for BT as well our specific Networks priorities and achievements to create a community of advocates.

That’s where you come in. As the internal communications manager for Networks with a focus on working with Dynamic Infrastructure, you’ll be responsible for a few big things:

contributing strategic advice and thought leadership, as a member of the DI leadership team, to build the engagement and advocacy needed to deliver our ongoing transformation in this area. You’ll also spot the stuff we need to share and know how to say ‘no’ to anything that doesn’t help improve understanding of the bigger picture and drive advocacy in our people and in our brand.

Making sure that any content you create for your audience looks, sounds and feels like BT (in a good way). You’ll work closely with our comms teams in the corporate teams to work out what and when communications need to be adapted for your audience and you’ll constantly look for new ways to improve what we do, share insight and any new ideas you’ve come across.

Contributing as a core member of the Networks internal communications team. Leading on large elements of the Network-wide plan and being a thought leader, planner, challenger, creative and ideas sponge for the team.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Work as part of the DI leadership team to design, gain support and deliver the IC strategy, demonstrating the benefits for all employees

Create an annual IC plan for DI that ties back to the Networks and BT’s broader IC plan, working closely with the principal internal communications to make sure it all stacks up

Create and deliver any bespoke comms activity for DI - including any strategic projects or function initiatives - making sure they’re on brand and support our IC principles

Lead on campaigns and core elements of the Network-wide plan, shaping what we do across Networks with your knowledge of dynamic infrastructure

Build strong and respectful relationships with your stakeholders – including senior leadership - providing spot-on advice on comms best practice, industry trends and BT-wide channel strategies to improve their understanding of the bigger comms picture

Proactively share any brilliant work from Networks back into the corporate IC team to share across BT

Seek out feedback on IC activities and constantly look for new ways – internally and externally - to do things differently, in pursuit of making our IC team one of the best in the industry

You'll have the following skills & experience

Experienced comms expert

Top-notch strategic and planning abilities - able to manage multiple plans and adapt to changing priorities and timelines quickly and easily

Collaborative – evidence of working brilliantly with colleagues at all levels of the business

Excellent stakeholder management, at all levels

Ability to break down complicated, technical and corporate speak into interesting and engaging communications that showcase our commitment to treat colleagues like adults, that we like

Demonstrable understanding of BT and internal communications – we’re a specialist team so we need someone experienced and in the know about what this takes

Strong verbal and written communication skills – particularly for presentations and creation of plans and strategy

25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)

10% on target bonus

Option to join the Healthcare Cash Plan
