Job Introduction

This exciting and diverse role will provide specialist Internal Communications and Engagement advice and activity across BBC News.

The successful candidate will work with the Head of Internal Communications and Engagement for BBC News, planning and delivering exemplary internal comms and engagement activity and  working directly with senior leaders. You will be expected to ensure the high quality delivery of engagement strategies, key announcements, internal news, change programme communications, employee updates, internal campaigns and events.

You will be an exceptional writer, an outstanding networker, and have proven strengths communicating with time poor audiences in a high pressure, fast moving environment where no two days are the same.

You will be a self starter, confident working independently to resolve complex queries, and will be responsible for continuously improving how we communicate with and engage colleagues across BBC News. You will be comfortable working across a range of projects simultaneously, and be resilient and adaptable working to urgent and changing deadlines.

Role Responsibility

  • Deliver key Internal Communication and Engagement activities to support the BBC News editorial and strategic objectives - including a major modernisation and change programme, pan-BBC priorities
  • Business partner for News Board members, creating and implementing strategic internal communications plans, providing sound advice, and working closely with senior leaders to get buy in for campaigns and messaging
  • Own the BBC employee engagement survey in News
  • Support the Director and Head of Internal Communications and Engagement in the planning and delivery of major pan-News and corporate announcements, launches, events and key channels
  • Drive and oversee effective, measurable, timely and tailored delivery of internal communications campaigns, working to maximise effectiveness and audience reach across BBC News
  • Own key IC&E channels across email, intranet and face to face messaging and input into their development
  • Develop and manage trusted stakeholder relationships across BBC News and the BBC
  • Have the ability to progress and implement multiple projects at the same time
  • Act as a coach and mentor for more junior Internal Communications colleagues
  • Oversee and deliver all written materials to a world class standard, ensuring the tone and messaging aligns with the overall IC&E strategy
  • Support pan-BBC messages and campaigns

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Proven experience of personal involvement in the management of communications or engagement activity within a diverse organisation
  • Sufficient breadth of communications experience to be able to offer advice to senior colleagues in and across BBC News
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present clear and concise professional communications to a range of audiences within the BBC
  • Strong track record in event planning and management
  • Ability to analyse and contextualise complex issues, identify key points to be addressed and develop effective, practical and simple plans to resolve problems
  • Confidence in using a wide range of digital and social media
  • Confidence and strong track record in managing relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail – ability to prioritise

  • Knowledge and/or experience of the media/broadcasting environment
