About the role

National Organised Crime Group is mandated by Government to detect, investigate, prosecute, confront, and disrupt the activities of serious and organised criminals, including those committing financial crime. It does this in collaboration and co-operation with law enforcement and other agencies both nationally and internationally.  NOCG has offices in Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Wellington, and Christchurch.

The objectives of NOCG are to centralise and enhance intelligence gathering capabilities against organised crime networks, including those committing financial crime, to ensure information is shared between law enforcement agencies and other relevant agencies. You will be collaborating with and enhance the cooperation between law enforcement and other relevant agencies in the planning and conducting of operations, both nationally and internationally. You will assist to detect, investigate and successfully prosecute serious and organised crime, including financial crime.

The functions of NOCG are intelligence gathering, analysis and dissemination, including information sharing; strategy and priority setting, target setting and planning; undertaking and supporting investigations using overt and covert capability; focus on preventing crime and reducing social harm; and maintaining international linkages, and strategic liaison with relevant agencies in New Zealand.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for identifying emerging risks relevant to transnational and organised crime, identifying criminal groups and providing analytical support to investigations.
  • Investigating information, being proactive and inquiring, having the ability to analyse a range of data and information to draw valid conclusions. Interpersonal skills, able to work as a team member and operate in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to conduct analysis of the environment including patterns and trends, drawing conclusion and justifying recommendations
  • Analytical skills working with ambiguous information and adding value to information obtained
  • Strong and effective communication skills including the ability to write clearly and succinctly and present work in a style that effectively influences the target audience

An understanding of the function of intelligence within police, an appreciation of operational security and an ability to manage classified information are essential.  

You will need to be organised and methodical when working with data, and able to process information into a well-articulated format e.g. reports, briefings, charts.
