Job Description:

  • Review production schedules, processes, specifications and related information.
  • Design manufacturing processes that maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and technology upgrades.
  • Design control systems to minimize production costs and problems.
  • Develop design and manufacturing standards in conjunction with management and staff use. Make lists of supplies and equipment, purchase orders, analyze costs, and estimate production costs.
  • Design the facility layout and determine staffing requirements.
  • Train employees on new procedures and provide instructions and manuals.
  • Manage process documentation and prepare production reports.
  • Evaluate current production methods and identify methods for improvement.
  • Manage production schedules and coordinate services to maximize productivity.
  • Apply quality control to reduce waste.
  • Improve the efficiency of each production process.
  • Evaluate employee duties and responsibilities, and identify procedures or tools to improve productivity.
  • Requires an Industrial Engineering degree or related field.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of production machinery, processes and standards.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Documentation and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD.
  • Industrial engineers use basic and advanced calculations to determine the current and potential productivity of a process. The ability to use calculus, trigonometry, algebra, and other forms of math is important for this position.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required for an industrial engineer. They must be aware of the needs of the business while making comprehensible technical recommendations.
  • Good leadership skills help industrial engineers implement productivity changes. The ability to develop relationships with colleagues is useful when making recommendations.
  • Industrial engineers often need to create workable solutions to a variety of challenges. Whether it’s improving the production of a certain product or reducing waste, being able to come up with a plan to fix the problem is crucial.
  • Industrial engineers must use analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data. They also use these skills to generate reports and describe results for business decision makers.
