The position

Reporting to the COO, this role will be responsible for overseeing and developing the safety and wellbeing strategy for the Australian business. As part of a small, expert international safety team, it will be crucial to your success to develop strong working relationships with all employees to ensure they embrace safety and follow processes and procedures. Responsibilities will include:

• Assist management in providing employees with the best possible opportunities for working safely
• Regular reviews of current safety practices, procedures and systems to ensure the company is meeting and exceeding its safety obligations.
• Develop and implement an Occupational Health and Safety Management System utilising the AS4801 framework (ISO45001 equivalent) or similar that meet Australian requirements
• Conduct worksite/workplace inspections/audits and prepare reports outlining potential hazards and areas of improvement.
• Conduct all company and site inductions for new employees, sub-contractors and suppliers. (Initial and ongoing) and co-ordinate with the regional branches to ensure compliance in this area.
• Manage workers compensation claims in accordance with relevant legislation
• Assist local managers develop return to work programs for injured employees
• Investigate the causes of incidents and recommend actions to prevent future occurrences
• Assist in devising and implement training and development plans for all staff and liaise with external parties to ensure cost effective design and consistency of programmes and processes
• Prepare weekly and monthly health and safety reports and compliance reporting
