About the Role
The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for all things health and safety, partnering and influencing teams to maintain a safety first culture. This is a permanent, hands-on position 32 - 40 hours per week.
Specific duties include:
- Coach, mentor and empower others to ensure health and safety obligations are understood and supported
- Form lasting relationships with key stakeholders, and health and safety providers
- Implement Health and Safety Plans and initiatives centered around risk mitigation and enhancing staff welfare
- Provide specialist support and reporting across the organisation on safety matters
- Oversee incident and risk management system to ensure thorough and timely investigations with clearly defined corrective actions
- Provide training, coaching and support on all things health and safety
- Coordinate and chair health and safety rep group
- Coordinate Mercy's annual safety audit program and where appropriate refine and review audits to ensure audits identify and improve safety standards at Mercy
- Support, review and develop health and safety systems, training, processes and policies
- Coordinate Fire Evacuation, Emergency Planning and CIMSERT systems and training
Skills and Experience:
- Excellent relationship management skills across a diverse range of people
- Relevant certificate or post graduate qualification or; significant experience in H&S specialist role
- Sound knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
- Extensive knowledge of effective risk and incident management
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Knowledge of auditing and quality improvement processes
- Ability to engage and influence
- Confidence dealing with unexpected situations and crises while maintaining a calm and professional manner
