BBC Content encompasses all of the BBC's network TV and Radio output. Under Charlotte Moore's leadership (as Chief Content Officer) we're repositioning our Television division in order to make radical changes to the way we commission content. This will enable us to deliver more value to all audiences across our channels and iPlayer and to focus on distinctive, high-impact content which audiences feel is for them.
We have an exciting opportunity for a new Head of Comedy Talent Development where you will support the continued success of BBC Comedy as the home of British comedy with unparalleled breadth and range in the broadcasting landscape.
We commission more comedy across more platforms than anyone else in the UK, nurturing and developing brand new comedy voices right through to collaborating with the most established household names.
Reporting to the Director, Comedy you will have the scope to define and own the strategic and creative direction for the Comedy development slate. Working with the wider comedy commissioning team, you will be at the heart of providing editorial support, on a project by project basis, and acting as a sounding board more widely to ensure our overall creative ambitions for Comedy Commissioning.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity within the industry to lead the talent development strategy for the Comedy Commissioning team – initiating new relationships with key emerging talent across the UK comedy landscape and fostering existing ones.
You will need significant experience in development and production, ideally across comedy and/or entertainment. You will excel at making diverse comedy content, with a clear editorial vision, and strengths in developing and delivering appropriate content to the most relevant platform.
Crucial to success will be your expertise in the use of social media and producing digital content, instinctively knowing how to develop and innovate to achieve our editorial ambitions.
You will need a track record in leading and inspiring development and production teams, within a multi-platform environment. Your leadership skills should be as exemplary as your writing skills and experience of writing and pitching proposals tailored to specific audience needs on all platforms.
