We currently have an opportunity for a Head of Bid Management to join our organisation reporting to the Sales Director UK&I. Whilst the role will ideally be based at our Sunbury office, it will involve approximately 50% travel covering our offices across the UK (post Covid-19), so willingness to travel is essential, flexibility to work from home will also be available. You will have responsibility for providing the direction and management of a bid team [head count currently +/- 12] who support a variety of very diverse busines units from locations across the UK. The role will also be required to support some of our business units operating globally. Reporting to the Sales Director and working closely with the sales and business leaders, this role will undertake a full range of activities associated with the end-to-end efficiency and effectiveness of bid management. From strategy to process, it includes structural alignment of the bid management team to optimize operational effectiveness and impact, setting of standards, processes and bid metrics of success. Crucially, this role will improve win rates across all value bands and business units whilst constantly aiming to develop and improve ways of working both with the business and the functional strategy. How you will do it
Organise the bid management function to support all required business units
Set appropriate performance metrics and put systems and processes in place for efficient and effective bid management
Ensure bid management and the supporting processes are utilized as a central support to business units providing leadership and continual development and improvement to the team
Oversee the total bid management process both those mandated for central referral and those covered by a localized framework to exercise bid management capabilities that support improved win ratios and bid effectiveness
Managing the full qualification stages and sign on for all opportunities ensuring that bids have a clear and unambiguous strategy and ensure the bid team input is positive and becomes part of the win strategy in the sales chain.
To increase the number of centralized bid submissions ensuring standards are set across all bid activities
To support the improvement of lead generation activity to ensure we bid more frequently where appropriate
To set up a bid/no bid process that is standardised by business unit as necessary
To set the benchmark for bid turnaround ranked by value and complexity
To evolve a structured central repository for all bid management content
Lead/contribute to the strategic agenda with Pricing and General Managers to determine how the bid management function contributes to margin and revenue growth.
Identifying and implementing industry and busines best practice where it will contribute to business performance
Working closely with customer sales teams to ensure customers are provided with winning offers and compelling proposals
Management of the Governance and Risk Mitigation for basic and large opportunities
What we look for Required
For this role we are looking for a resilient and adaptable Head of Bid Management with proven Bid Management experience, ideally having worked in a large, matrix, multiple site and complex commercial environments.
Excellent commercial ability and gravitas to build strong working relationships with key senior stakeholders at all levels of the business environment
An industry expert with proven success in Bid Management
Demonstrable track record of leading change management projects and motivating change
Experience working in a fast paced and matrixed organisation with a solution focused and customer centric mind-set
Ability to operate strategically and have a hands-on approach including team coaching and building organizational capability
Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
Demonstrate ability to communicate to C Level, both written and verbal, Internal and external, equally adept in matching the format, message, and timing of communication to the audience
Collaborative approach
Output driven with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and ability to prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong analytical skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook a
Preferred
10+ years commercial experience in similar/associated role
APMP qualified to minimum of foundation level or other strategic proposal management qualification
Programme management experience
Experience of working with or in a sales environment using formal sales methodology practices
Direct customer experience at all levels
