Job Description

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About this role

Would you like to be a part of the team that enables colleagues and teams across BT to be their best? Can you approach culture and listening through a group lens that enables an organisation to attract, develop, engage and retain the best talent?

Great leadership at all levels, from first line people managers to our most senior leaders, is critical to our success. So is the performance, capability, diversity, engagement and experience of our most senior leaders and the teams they work in. Ensuring we have both is the core purpose of this role.

In pursuit of that goal, this role will be part of a small team responsible for: setting the standards for great leadership and people management at all levels across BT, assessing the performance, capability, diversity, and engagement of the 800 or so most senior leaders across BT, and defining strategies to close any gaps.

You’d be intricately involved with business units and their respective HR and leadership teams, supporting the design of key frameworks through thought leadership. Alongside you will be experts in strategic workforce planning, performance management, diversity & inclusion, culture, engagement and organisation design.

Based from our fantastic Snowhill hub in Birmingham, you’ll be in great company and have the opportunity to embrace our smart working culture – there’s never been a better time to join BT.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Helping set and maintain leadership standards for great leadership and people management at all levels across BT, embedding these into our core people processes (recruitment, feedback, evaluation, development, etc.) and evolving these to reflect changing market and strategic priorities

Identifying solutions to enable senior leader development working with the Group Learning team to ensure that senior leaders get access to development experiences that will build capability and drive performance through a clear leadership development strategy

Helping monitor senior leader and senior team capability, diversity and engagement working closely with the Talent team to identify capability and diversity issues and gaps that need addressing

Supporting the business unit-aligned HR leadership teams, facilitating best practice sharing and the co-development of leadership strategies

You'll have the following skills & experience

Subject-matter expertise: Experience working on leadership capability and performance in a large corporate or consultancy and with good engagement to market best practice is essential

Stakeholders: Experience working directly with HR and business leaders, establishing strong and credible relationships is essential

Ways of Working: Experience working in multi-national, complex matrix organisations, particularly those with a Group/operating unit structure would be desirable

Certifications/accreditations in workshop facilitation, psychometric testing, feedback tools and/or coaching would be desirable

Culture & engagement – good understanding of the key role leadership plays in culture building and engagement

Analytical ability: good skills in using data and insights and communicating this to senior HR and business audiences

Benefits

25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays

10% annual performance bonus

Generous pension scheme
