Job Description

The Role

We are looking for a full time Veterinary Surgeon (40 hours) to join our existing team of 7 very experienced vets. You would work four days a week between our surgeries at Upton upon Seven and Lower Wick.

The role will involve a varied case load split between consulting and surgery, which can be tailored to individual interests. The four-day week consists of two shorter shifts (8-5 or 8.30-5.30) and two longer shifts (8.30-7). The day off varies, but as a full-time vet, you would get at least one three-day weekend in 6.

Weekends would consist of 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, alternating between the two sites (Upton Upon Seven and Lower Wick). Vets Now cover our afterhours. We have a duty rota to cover inpatient care for the occasional pet that is unable to transfer to Vets Now. As a full time, vet, you would cover 1 night a week and 1 weekend in 6. You receive additional pay for any inpatients kept in afterhours. Distance between the two sites is short with only a 9.3-mile journey.

We try very hard to be flexible with the rota to accommodate individual commitments outside of work. As such, we would also happily consider any part time applicants as part of a job share.

About Us

We are a first opinion small animal practice based in Worcestershire, with our main site in Upton Upon Seven and a smaller, fully equipped branch in Lower Wick, Worcester.

Our Upton Upon Severn site is situated in an old GP surgery, with ample parking and a large reception with separate dog and cat waiting areas. There are two consulting rooms and a nurse clinic room. There are also separate dog, cat, and isolation kennels. All clinical areas have pipped oxygen, with dedicated prep, theatre, and diagnostic rooms.

We have a wide range of modern diagnostic equipment, including an inhouse lab, digital x-ray (including dental), laparoscopy, endoscopy, and ultrasound.

Our Lower Wick site has a dedicated theatre and separate prep room with an inhouse lab. Both sites are within easy reach of the M5 and M50 motorways, with good links to Birmingham airport, the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds.

Our team of seven vets has over 85 years of experience between them. Half of our vet team have been with us for ten years or longer. We strive very hard to look after our staff; we focus on maintaining a very good work life balance and a positive working environment.

Three of our vets hold certificates in medicine and feline practice. We actively support and fund the pursuit of certificates and there is ample case variety to get casebooks done.

We have six fully qualified nurses, three ANA's and 8 support staff. We are also a nurse training practice and many of our students go on to stay with us as RVNs.

The staff work collaboratively as a team and there is always someone around to bounce ideas off or lend a hand as needed. There is ample room built into the working day for admin and phone calls and there a TOIL system in place for those days you get caught behind. As a member of our team, you would have complete clinical freedom and cases are worked up to a high standard. New graduates would also have plenty support from other members of the team.

A range of experience levels will be considered for the role; there is ample support for new or recent graduate applicants.

Applicants need to be positive, friendly, and able to work as part of a team. An interest in surgery would be helpful but not essential.

Applicants need to be MRCVS, have a full UK drivers' licence and proof of right to work in the UK.
