Carlisle Mental Health Support Team (MHST) x 2 posts
Trainee or Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)
(Barnardo's Project Worker 1)
Salary scale – Band 4 trainee EMHP £23,949
Band 5 qualified EMHP £27,055
In line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the new Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.
You will be employed by Barnardo's and recruited to a Project Worker 1 (NHS Scale 4) post, gaining credits towards either a degree or diploma level qualification (depending on the level of previous academic study). On completion of training and, upon qualification, you will progress to a Project Worker 2 (NHS Scale 5) post.
To enable this, all applicants must demonstrate, in their application, the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. Further to that, experience of working with children and young people and an understanding of the educational system in England is highly desirable.
The training programme for this post starts in January 2023 and is 12 months in duration and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning across mental health services and educational settings, such as primary and secondary schools, and further education colleges.
On successful completion of training, trainee EMHPs will be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge and capabilities to work as a qualified EMHP as autonomous and responsible practitioners within their scope of practice, alongside education colleagues. EMHPs will play a key role as members of the new Mental Health Support Teams, who will have the responsibility for delivering schools' overarching approach to providing mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.
We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.
For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which should be in place by 1st April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a key pillar of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to grow and develop in their career at Barnardo's.
