Reporting to the Manager of Flight Simulation, this role will support the technical and operational aspects of Flight Simulator and Flight Simulation training devices within Flight Operations.

 

Key Function & Accountabilities:

  • Monitor, review and audit third-party simulator maintenance provider’s monthly Transport Canada QTG submissions for all Full Flight Simulators and qualified level 4 training devices. 
  • Monitor and review ongoing Transport Canada evaluation write-ups, training device snags, defects, which have a training or regulatory impact.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to Air Canada’s contracted third party simulator maintenance provider for timely repair. 
  • Liaise with Transport Canada, FAA, and other state regulatory authorities on matters pertaining to initial training device qualification, recurrent qualification, as well as on-going Q/A requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain simulator metrics for training device serviceability, reliability and training availability to meet ARINC standard 433 and regulatory requirements. 
  • Perform routine audits and QA reviews of all Air Canada simulators and training devices as well as QA reviews of third-party devices used by Air Canada for flight training.
  • Manage and provide oversight for training equipment configuration control required to align training device configuration to aircraft fleet configuration.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to third-party simulator maintenance provider for updates to simulation software and hardware configuration in alignment with the Air Canada fleet configuration.
  • Communicate with Aircraft Avionics Engineering, Operations Engineering, Subcontractors and Flight Operations internal customers to support hardware and software using flight simulation technology as a test bench for aircraft modifications.
  • Test and accept new training devices during procurement and update service of existing training devices including review of technical specifications, QTG review,  Systems testing as required.
  • Manage all aircraft programs updates and service bulletins that have training simulation equipment impact on training devices.  Specifically, capture customer requirements, develop project plan, liaise with service providers, embody changes and conduct post-implementation audit.
  • Communicate with internal Flight Operations customers such as Instructors, Training Managers, and Chief Pilots to capture requirements and review concerns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, Applied Sciences, Engineering or with emphasis on computer science, aerospace or equivalent is an asset.
  • Ability to code in Fortran, C, C++ and the ability to use MS Visual Studio
  • Project Management experience qualifying flight simulators and training devices highly desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years experience maintaining Flight Simulation Systems at a training provider or Training Device Manufacturer in at least two or more of the following areas: Flight Simulation Maintenance, Technical Services, Software development, Simulator deployment, Simulator qualification.
  • Six Sigma green belt training or equivalent.
  • Project Management Certificate (PMP or equivalent) desirable.
  • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, Project and electronic mail efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate in both written and oral English at an advanced (University Degree equivalent) level. French is an asset. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Air Regulations, ICAO Annexes, FARs, ARINC Standards and industry activities relating to Flight Simulation.
