Job Summary:
The purpose of the FMO's work is to ensure that the facility's employees, and their eligible dependents, receive quality medical care. Furthermore, he/she must ensure that Site management receives the guidance and support required to ensure the success of the operational mission.
Medical problems are of immediate concern to Site managers. Minimal redundancy in all positions at Site requires close cooperation between Managers and employees.
Qualifications:
- A medical doctor whose interests lie in the area of family practice.
- Must be capable of working in an isolated area which does not provide the level of facilities and consultation.
- Must have an understanding and mature view of emotional stresses experienced by his/her patients and the ability to provide counselling.
- Must familiarize themselves with the peculiarities of the local environment which have a potential impact on the health of their patients.
- Must maintain current knowledge of medical and dental resources available to their patients and should update their knowledge through continuing professional development.
- This position requires the management of two medical facilities, one located on the facility grounds and the other located in the town of Alice Springs and requires close liaison with the local medical and allied health services community, interstate specialists and allied health services, and health department.
- The FMO must balance the concern for their patients with their responsibility to Site management.
Key Responsibilities:
- The FMO has frequent daily contacts with patients and his subordinates, ie frequent formal and informal meetings with senior site managers, as well as frequent phone and written contact with local and interstate doctors/specialists and allied health services.
- Provide quality medical care, to maintain knowledge of current availability 0£ facilities and procedures, and to provide guidance to Site managers.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- The JDFPG Medical Clinics provide high quality health care for patients and a safe working environment for those that work in the clinics by integrating the National RACGP Standards for General Practices and NHMRC Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare into its policies and procedures.
