Facilitator: Teaching through video games

At Egg Academy, facilitators run interactive sessions that teach digital and entrepreneurial skills to teenagers (aged 13-15) through their passion for gaming.

We do our teaching in the form of Game Development and/or Content Creation and/or Gaming Events.

A typical 2 hour session involves:
- Brief/Debrief (5mins)
- A look at current events in technology and gaming (5mins)
- A technical skills workshop (90mins)
- A social/fun game or activity (20mins)

Your tasks and duties will include:
- Planning the session (creating a run sheet)
- Running the session (facilitating the group of teenagers to have discussions, learn digital skills and have fun)
- Writing a debrief and student report

Technical skills that we teach kids include:
- Software development (mostly using GameMaker Language)
- Video creation
- Graphic design
- Shoutcasting
- 2D art
- Music production

You will not need to be an expert at any of these areas, but knowing how to do these things will be useful.

Some sessions will be in-person (at 192 Montreal Street, Christchurch Central) and some will be online, facilitated via Discord.
You will have some creative freedom on how to run the session but the lesson content will either be provided or developed with you.

Things that would help with this job:
- Be a gamer or ex-gamer (playing Minecraft / Roblox and using Discord is a bonus)
- Have some experience in game development, content creation and/or gaming events
- Have some experience working with young people
- Ability to form positive relationships and work in a team
- Having a range of software, media and social skills
- Being able to adapt to changing circumstances

We also run a Discord and Minecraft server for the students of Egg Academy which serves as a moderated online social space
