Ballard has a position available for a EH&S Specialist. The EH&S Specialist will report to the Corporate EHS Manager and will be responsible for a variety of tasks focusing on the integration of our environment and health & safety management system across the organization. 

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate active, visible and professional environmental health and safety leadership at all times
• Assist with the implementation and improvement of Ballard’s Corporate Environment and Health & Safety Management System, including EH&S goals and initiatives in all Ballard locations
• Participate in regular EH&S inspections and perform preliminary Occupational Hygiene testing, Noise surveys, Light surveys etc.
• Provide onsite and remote support for hazard assessments and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans
• Provide onsite and remote support in the implementation of EHS practices into the future of work and work from home initiatives
• Participate in formal EH&S reviews of existing equipment modifications, new equipment purchases, and changes in across sites
• Participate in internal audit teams (regulatory, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO 45001 and others as required)
• Support the Health and Safety committee and the Mission Carbon Zero committee, including arranging and attending meetings

Related Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• 3-5 years of related experience
• Experience developing and implementing health, safety and environment policies, procedures & practices
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with all levels across organization
• Energetic, self-motivated and presents environment, health and safety in a positive and practical manner
• Experience doing observations, inspections, environmental health and safety audits, etc.
• Practical experience in a manufacturing, or lab an asset 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present effectively to stakeholders
• Ability to prioritize under the pressure of tight deadlines
• Ability to travel based on business needs
