Join our Ground Engineering team as a Environmental Specialist on the HS2 SB3 project and you will deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.

SB3 are a joint venture incorporating Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) and Bachy Soletanche Ltd (BSL), and are appointed by BBV, (Balfour Beatty/ Vinci JV), to deliver the geotechnical works required along Phase 1 of the overall HS2 scheme to provide a new high-speed rail connection between London and the North of England.

This role will be based from Coleshill, Birmingham and will provide support and advice to operational teams on all aspects of environmental management,developing environmental documentation, meeting legal and company standards and helping deliver a culture. The role will require site visits within the Birmingham area and a company car will be provided.

What you'll be doing

• Provide advice and support to operational teams on environmental matters.
• Maintain relationships with regulators, clients, subcontractors and local stakeholders.
• Investigate and report incidents to the Environment and Sustainability Manager.
• Ensure on site compliance with environmental legislation and coach teams in applying controls and mitigations.
• Support Sustainability activities for the project.
• Deliver value adding environment projects and support ecological enhancements.
• Produce and update environmental management plans and environmental risk assessments.
• Provide on-site advice to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance and project specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecology protection.
• Investigate environmental incidents and support the business to implement controls to prevent repeat occurrence.
• Deliver environmental training, toolbox talks and undertake onsite coaching
• Produce internal and external reports as required, e.g. case studies, environmental performance.

Who we're looking for

• Strong knowledge of environment management and sustainability issues
• Educated to degree level in Environmental Science, Environmental Management
• Practical experience and knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licences and consent applications and regulators
• Understanding of ecological matters and environmental law
• Full UK drivers licence and flexibility to travel
• Understanding of the Construction operating environment
• Internal environmental auditor qualification
• Masters degree in relevant field
• PIEMA or IEMA Membership
• Commercial awareness
