This position may be located across Canada.
This position will be responsible for providing continuity between safety practices at all Corporate Real Estate’s (CRE) facilities and the goals of the corporate Environment, Health & Safety requirements. They will act as a link between management and employees/contractors. They will ensure safety training requirements and that training competencies of the operations staff is current, and that all training material is maintained up to date. The incumbent will be a constant resource to the CRE Facilities Maintenance team for all internal requests, audits, and development plans. They will work with the Manager, Environment, Health & Safety to obtain Air Canada’s vision of Safety first, Always.
Map out annual training plans for various levels within the Facilities Maintenance team including leadership, union staff, and departmental staff
Design, develop and deliver training programs (leveraging outsourced or inhouse resources and experts when needed)
Select appropriate training methods or activities (e.g., simulations, mentoring, on-the-job training, professional development classes)
Conduct department-wide training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed
Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and KPIs
Partner with internal stakeholders, leadership, human resources, and liaise with experts regarding instructional design
Assess and evaluate work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards; and eliminate or ensure adequate controls are in place
Advise managers, supervisors and employees about safe work practices and safety standards & regulations
Responsible for online documentation management and development in accordance with organizational expectations
Audit and monitor Air Canada’s safety and environment management program elements as required in accordance with organizational and client expectations
Support work location risk management communications by researching and providing appropriate materials for operational team members and acting as an HSE subject matter resource for the team
Deliver on the strategic goals and objectives laid out in the yearly objectives review
Work with organization to minimize environmental audit findings and be resourceful in creating corrective action plans
Recommend appropriate procedures and equipment for safety and compliance with relevant laws & regulations
Assist in the development of health and safety policies and programs for Corporate Real Estate
Instruct safety courses and present safety issues to facilities maintenance team
Facilitate workplace health and safety committee meetings in specific regions region
Promote safe work practices and injury & fatality prevention activities

Strong computer knowledge that supports electronic information management.
Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
Ability to design and implement effective training and development.
Strong knowledge of Canadian Occupational Health and Safety regulations
Strong Knowledge of Canadian Environmental Legislation
Qualifications
University or college degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or similar
Previous experience in a safety leadership role of at least two years.
Preference will given to those with aviation/airline experience
Health and Safety accreditation or working toward an accreditation preferred (CRSP).
Experience in dealing with Canadian government authorities (Labor Canada, Health Canada).
Extensive knowledge in Health and safety regulations, Environmental regulations, Fire code and fire safety requirements.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence changes.
Great leadership skills with ability to be assertive while maintaining diplomacy and political awareness.
High regard and respect for confidentiality.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Highly flexible and adaptable.
Innovative and ‘out of the box’ thinking while demonstrating and promoting a sense of urgency.
Motivated, proactive, and enthusiastic team player able to work independently while juggling priorities.
Strong understanding of Facility Maintenance activities.
Ability to travel to facilities across Canada frequently.
