Job Description

The Opportunity

Join EDF as an Environmental Arrangements Specialist, and you’ll join one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF.

The Environment Team is part of the Safety and Regulation Directorate within EDF Energy’s Nuclear New Build programme working on the Hinkley Point C project.

NNB Generation Company (HPC) Ltd achieved ISO 14001 accreditation for its Environmental Management System in June 2016, in 2018 this was confirmed as being ISO14001:2015 compliant.

As an Environmental Arrangements Specialist, you will be responsible for working closely with other teams across the business to further develop, maintain and support the implementation of the environmental management system alongside other health, safety and quality systems to deliver an effective integrated management system for NNB GenCo.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to join a diverse and complex environment, managing a significant environmental infrastructure project.

The Role

As an Environmental Arrangements Specialist, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

•    Supporting further development and driving implementation of the Environmental Management System (as part of the integrated management system) for NNB GenCo.
•    Driving the development of compliance arrangements and the development of a “compliance and beyond compliance” culture within the organisation especially with a consideration of operational requirements.
•    Advising and inputting into supply chain activities (review of Pre-Qualification Questionnaire and Invitation To Tender environmental requirements, development of contract specific environmental and sustainability appendices, review of tender submissions), where necessary taking the lead as the interface between the Environment Team and the Procurement / Construction Teams.
•    Supporting the transfer of work packs to the construction site for implementation with appropriate documentation and checks / balances;
•    Supporting the processes for self-assessments / internal audits and independent assessments (including internal and external audits and assessment of suppliers) within NNB GenCo, if required by liaising with the teams in Construction Support and the Safety Directorate.
•    Working with internal stakeholders (Architect Engineer, Principal Contractor, Site Management Team, Health and Safety and Quality) and external regulators to ensure a consistent, and where applicable, integrated approach.
•    Communication of NNB GenCo environmental expectations to staff and contractors.

The Skills

We are looking for:

•    Degree or equivalent in a related discipline.
•    Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining all aspects of a high quality environmental management system conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2015) within a developing organisation.
•    Broad working knowledge of environmental legislation.
•    A good understanding of the implementation and embedding of management arrangements.
•    Experience of working with and developing good relationships with UK regulators.
•    Experience in working with the preparation and delivery of contracts, particularly as a contract manager or in technical support for contracts.
•    Good understanding of environmental aspects and risk assessment.
•    Excellent communication/interpersonal and influencing skills notably throughout various levels of the organisation and externally.
•    Ability to work independently and be pro-active with good organisation skills.
•    Confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
•    Experience of management systems, auditing and assessments in the context of the nuclear industry, including compliance with Environmental Permit and/or nuclear site licence requirements, would be an advantage.

Competitive Salary & Benefits

Alongside a salary of £40,000 - £50,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

Please let us know if you require flexible working arrangements by highlighting this on your application.  We’re happy to talk flex in line with the requirements of this opportunity.
