The Public and Corporate Affairs division of the Public, Legal and Corporate Affairs Branch is looking for an English Writer for a permanent position. The position is classified as an RÉ-05 ($68,641 to $91,072 per annum).

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Manager, Executive and Internal Communications Services, the English Writer prepares written content for NCC’s Executive and Internal Communications services, including the Chair of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and other potential speakers. These include blog posts, Op-Eds, white papers, background materials, position papers, CEO communications with staff, speeches, remarks, talking points and accompanying PowerPoint presentations. The individual produces content that are coherent and articulate, contain consistent messaging, on subjects relevant to the NCC’s mandate and activities, for delivery to varied audiences, such as ministerial announcements, stakeholder groups, the public and NCC employees.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: A degree from a recognized university in English Literature, Political Science, Public Affairs, Journalism or Communications.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following areas:
Using methods, techniques and practices for the development of executive communications materials, speeches, remarks and talking points.
Planning and coordinating content from multiple stakeholders for concurrent projects.
Providing advice and guidance to senior management on plans, strategies, progress, risks and challenges related to the content and delivery of their communications materials, speeches, remarks or talking points.
Advanced computer skills and proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
KNOWLEDGE
Of the NCC’s priorities, programs, and mandate.
Of trends and developments that could be of political interest for the NCC.
Of research and communication techniques.
ABILITIES
To revise, edit and adapt communications materials and speeches to different audiences (i.e. members of Parliament, associations, stakeholders, and the general public)
To work effectively with senior executives, the CEO and the Chair, as well as subject matter experts within various branches of the NCC.
To plan, prioritize and organize work in a high-pressure, fast-paced work environment.
To provide advice to internal clients and external stakeholders.
To communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Position is in the National Capital Region. The candidate must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace (40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario);
