West Beechboro Primary School (PS) is seeking an Education Assistant – Mainstream, for an Early Childhood position. As the needs of the school develop, this role may change over time.
West Beechboro PS, located north-east of Perth CBD, caters for the educational and social needs for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school has a rich cultural diversity, with a large percentage of its student population having an English as an Additional Language/Dialect background.
An Education Assistant (Mainstream) assists the teacher in the delivery of education programs including the operation of digital technology. They collaborate with the teacher to plan and deliver individual student or small group programs. They assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by coordinating equipment and resources. They also assist the teacher with clean and safe storage of items after activities.
In addition to these duties, an Education Assistant – Mainstream ensures that mentoring and pastoral care is provided to students, and counsels students on matters affecting their education, particularly those students at risk, in order for those students to have an increased participation rate and the ability to better utilise the education program.
The successful applicant will ideally have a high level of interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with staff members to meet the needs of students. You will ideally possess the knowledge and experience of working with a wide array of students. It would be advantageous for the successful applicant to have had experience in using the following programs: Jolly Phonics, Spelling Mastery, PR1ME Mathematics and Talk4Writing along with an understanding of Phonological Awareness and its importance in the development of literacy skills. Furthermore, experience in using the Zones of Regulation, and trauma informed practices would be highly desirable. The successful applicant will be working with small groups and or individual students, to support their academic and social development during their time at the school.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals.
Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
Sound organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective educational programs to students.
Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and

Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.

Employees will be required to:
complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
