Job Description:

Wildland Consultants Ltd is a progressive consultancy specialising in ecology, biodiversity and ecological restoration. The company has offices throughout New Zealand and a nation-wide client base.

This is a fulltime permanent role.  As a supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of our ecological restoration field team based in Grey Lynn, Auckland. You will be supervising ecological restoration works including managing works programmes, mentoring staff, internal auditing, and preparing quotes and reports. You will also liaise with client representatives and other stakeholders including Iwi and community groups.

It is essential that you have at least 2-3 years’ experience as a Restoration Field Team Leader or similar, or are currently supervising ecological restoration works. It is also essential that you are able to communicate effectively to staff and clients, work efficiently, and have excellent planning and problem-solving skills. This role is approximately 50% office and 50% field based. It requires visits to prospective and ongoing ecological restoration sites throughout Auckland (and potentially Northland, Waikato and further afield), quoting for new work, auditing, monitoring, and on the ground supervision/mentoring of restoration teams carrying out physical works, through working alongside and leading by example. The work will also require the use of agrichemicals (herbicides), pest animal toxins (poisons), and traps from time to time while working alongside the restoration team in a mentoring role.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A conservation qualification - graduate or post graduate in horticultural, ecology, environmental or earth sciences.
  • A genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving restoration goals.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of native planting, pest plant and animal monitoring and control.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in project quoting, implementation and reporting.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in mentoring and training existing and new staff.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • A good work ethic, efficient and H&S conscious.
  • Report writing and computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and GPS/mapping software).
  • Photography and handheld devices (tablets, GPS).
  • A good level of fitness, as the role will require field work and site visits in a range of environments and terrain.
  • Full NZ drivers’ licence (and able to drive manual).

Preferred applicants should also hold CURRENT relevant qualifications and experience such as Growsafe (Standard or Registered Chemical Applicator), First Aid, Sitesafe (or similar), Chainsaw, 4WD, and Control Substances Licence (CSL). A clean full driver’s licence for manual vehicles is essential.

If you have a genuine passion for ecological restoration, experience carrying out fieldwork and have dependable administration and management skills, register your interest today.
