 A progressive ecological consultancy, committed to the care and enhancement of our natural environment. High quality ecological information, advice and technical services are provided to a wide range of clients.

 We are seeking a fulltime permanent Team Leader position at Wildlands Rotorua. This role is to lead small teams (2-6 staff) in the field undertaking ecological restoration works which includes pest plant control, planting, and pest animal control.

A professional Team Leader with a minimum of three years’ experience is required.  It is essential that you have a positive attitude, are able to communicate effectively to staff, have excellent planning and problem-solving skills and are efficient in time management. This role involves leading a team on ecological restoration sites throughout the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. You will be regularly working away on jobs and staying in basic accommodation including, but not limited to back country huts, shearers quarters, and campgrounds/caravan parks. The work requires staff to use agrichemicals (herbicides), and vertebrate toxins (poisons) in a safe manner.

 Job Requirements:

 Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • A genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving restoration goals.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in mentoring and training existing and new staff.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • A good work ethic, efficient and H&S conscious.
  • GPS use and other hand held devices (e.g. phone, camera).
  • An excellent level of fitness.
  • Full NZ drivers licence and confident driving manual 4WD utes.
  • Can confidently tow (and reverse) a trailer.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of indigenous planting, and pest plant and animal monitoring and control.

Preferred applicants will hold CURRENT relevant qualifications and experience. These include Growsafe (Standard or Registered Chemical Applicator), First Aid, Chainsaw, 4WD, Controlled Substance Licence (CSL), ATV and SiteSafe Passport (or equivalent). A clean full driver's license for manual vehicles is essential.
