The Vacancy

Providing assessments, training, instruction and development for the Hermes driver population across the regional sites (Hubs and Depots) you support. This role will principally deliver both new drivers and upskilling of current drivers along with the provision of similar services to third parties where appropriate.  The role will deliver the continuous improvement of the day to day effectiveness of the Hermes distribution network, maintaining professionalism and the company's standards to meet all relevant legal requirements in the UK.

You will be accountable for:

• Delivering high calibre driving tuition to drivers who are working to obtain their Cat C and / or their Cat C+E licences, including through apprenticeship levy funded programmes.
• Supporting drivers through the entire training process from candidate selection to application to on boarding.
• Maintaining accurate record keeping in line with applicable legislation, regulations and business requirements.
• Delivering new driver training solutions with direction from the Senior Instructor and Driving Academy Manager as per the business requirements. This includes training drivers on new equipment.
• Where applicable supporting new site start-ups on all driver training related matters, including assessments and inductions.
• Where necessary supporting the Senior Instructor, including the applicable transport systems (Tachomaster / Isotrak / Lytx) to aid best practice whilst training drivers.
• Continually drive Transport Operations legal compliance, identifying individual development opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Delivering all development with an aim to improve service, safety, legal compliance and cost / damage reduction.
• Driving Hermes values and goals to support overall driver retention and attraction.
• Developing knowledge and relationships with local test resources.
• Delivering and sustaining a high first-time pass rate of delegates during training and assessments.
• Utilising time effectively and appropriately to ensure delegates have the correct support and resource given to them during training. 
• The maintenance of the assigned training vehicles and facilities, ensuring best practice of the Driving Academy at all times.
• Delivering group and individual face to face training sessions in operational process and policy.

Qualifications Required and Desirable:

• A full Cat C+E (articulated) LGV driving licence (essential)
• Award in Education and Training (Level 3) qualification (essential)
• RTITB National Register of Instructors (NRI) qualification (desirable)
• Transport Manager CPC qualification (desirable)

Experience Required:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Logistics / Transport industry
• Minimum 2 years driver training experience
• Professional but fun approach to training who highly engages their audience.

Technical Experience Required:

• Comprehensive knowledge of drivers’ hours and tachograph regulations
• A working knowledge of Working time and Road transport directive
• Excellent presentation skills
• Ability to facilitate face to face and virtual training sessions.
