The Division
The Regional and Outer Metropolitan Division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure. In the Community and Place branch, we engage with customers, communities and stakeholders to ensure their needs are considered in the development and delivery of Transport’s plans, strategies, services and programs across NSW.
We do this by working with teams across Transport and sharing community and place insights.This is to achieve our goal to improve access, quality of life, and sustainability and improve customer and community outcomes.
The Opportunity
Right now we have 2 x fixed term opportunities (up until 30/06/2025) for Disaster Recovery Project Managers within the Transport Technical Solutions team in the Community and Place Division. Based in Region North, this role will lead regional engagement with local councils for disaster recovery arrangements under the NSW Disaster Assistance Guidelines. This role will work closely with Local Government Authorities and the Local Government team in Community & Place, providing financial and technical assistance to councils to restore essential public assets that are damaged as a direct result of an eligible disaster.

About you
To be considered for this role you must be possess tertiary qualifications in engineering and be able to demonstrate your previous experience in roads, bridges, road cuttings/embankments and maintenance. You will be a skilled communicator with exposure to working with a broad spectrum of stakeholders including technical experts and all levels of government.
The ability to astutely manage time, delegate and work collaboratively and closely with other parts of the division is paramount.
You will need to:
Ensure local councils understand the NSW Disaster Assistance Guidelines and requirements in obtaining financial assistance to restore essential public assets
Facilitate technical engineering support for local councils in assessing and determining emergency and reconstruction works as well as reviewing estimates for eligible scope of works.
Lead and provide guidance and support for local councils in obtaining financial assistance for eligible emergency and reconstruction works.
Ensure local councils understand the NSW Disaster Assistance Guidelines and requirements in obtaining financial assistance to restore essential public assets
We have offices in Tuggerah, Newcastle and Grafton. This role requires a commitment to travel to a large number of sites across the region due to the extent of damage experienced by councils.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is Engineer Level 4 ($147,164– $157,022) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
