About Us
The Office of the Secretary supports our leaders to develop and deliver the vision and strategy for Transport for NSW. We provide a range of services including strategic advice, executive communications, government and cluster relations, and general business, executive and Cabinet support.
The opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior public sector Executive to work in the Office of the Secretary and join the Chief of Staff leadership team, working closely with senior leaders across the Transport Cluster and across government.
The Director Government Relations is a key leadership role and acts as a deputy to the Chief of Staff. As Director, you will provide expert advice and support to the Cluster, working closely across portfolios spanning Infrastructure, Transport, Active Transport, Metropolitan and Regional Roads. You will provide a seniority of judgement and stakeholder engagement to support the time critical demands arising from the machinery of Government changes, which have expanded the portfolio remit of the Cluster and increased its accountable reporting to four Portfolio Ministers.
You will provide leadership to the parliamentary and machinery of Government process for Transport, ensuring Transport effectively contributes to relevant State and federal Government proposals, initiatives, and forums, driving Transport and NSW Government strategies and priorities.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Providing deputy leadership to the Chief of Staff across the Office of the Secretary’s accountabilities, delivering robust, well considered, and trusted advice to the Chief of Staff across a broad remit of policy, strategic and organisational matters
Leading Government Relations for the Transport Cluster, delivering functional support and advisory services, including Ministerial and Parliamentary support to four Portfolio Ministers and expert advice across parliamentary procedure
Providing expertise and support to the Secretary, Transport Executive, and broader business across a diverse and complex range of issues
Leading Cluster engagement with Parliamentary Committees, ensuring government requirements are met and supporting the Secretary, Transport Executive, Ministerial Offices, and other subject matter experts in responding to Parliamentary questions, requests, and inquiries
Developing and delivering a robust intra and inter-governmental relations program, consulting and influencing stakeholders to navigate through the machinery of Government
Modelling leadership values across the Office of the Secretary and wider cluster, and engaging with the Office of the Secretary leadership team to support the Secretary

About You
You will bring proven leadership capability and experience at a senior level in State or Federal Government in Policy, Government Services and/or Ministerial.
You will be tertiary qualified with a solid understanding of the workings of Government, including Parliamentary procedure and machinery of Government.
You will be highly adept engaging and managing a diverse group of senior stakeholders and relationships across Government, including Ministerial Offices.
You will bring high-level strategic and forward-thinking capability, coupled with sound operational experience leading and supporting a high performing business function.
You will be regarded as a professional who thrives maintaining a high level of stakeholder liaison and exercising sound initiative and judgement in a complex and fast-moving setting with multiple moving parts.
You will be a proven people leader with experience inspiring and directing teams in a high-pressure and politically sensitive environment and fostering a collaborative, inclusive and supportive team culture.
