Role Responsibility
Develop technical skills in computer visualisation, machine learning and artificial intelligence, learning how to create real-world impact through cutting-edge tech.
Help the BBC’s audiences and storytellers, get hands-on with data and use a range of models, approaches and techniques to draw conclusions and find trends.
Build and support the future of the BBC as part of a new community of data scientists and engineers.
Study for your L6 apprenticeship qualification, from either the University of Glasgow or York St John University, with modules including:
Using
Developing, modelling and integrating data systems 
Programming, building and testing business intelligence systems 
Statistical and mathematical models and methods
Structuring and operating data systems
Researching and developing prototype data solutions for the BBC and our audiences
This apprenticeship offers the following locations across the UK enabling you to work within distinct areas of our organisation. You will be required to indicate your preference on the application form. 
BBC Technology Group Archives Team (Main Base: Pacific Quay, Glasgow)  
Based in Glasgow with BBC Technology Group Archives team, you'll get to work at the heart of Data Science at the BBC, all while studying for a bachelors BSc degree (Hons) in Software Engineering with Data Science with the University of Glasgow. 
BBC Datalab (Main Base: W1 London) 
Based in London with the BBC Datalab, you’ll get to work at the heart of Data Science at the BBC, all while studying for a bachelors BSc degree (Hons) in Data Science with York St John University.

The Ideal Candidate
To be eligible for an apprenticeship, you must:
Have Maths and English GCSEs or Standard (Scotland) at 9-4 (A-C) or equivalent
Have completed further education with either:
A-levels at AAB-BBB including maths.
S5 or S6 with BBBB or above, including higher mathematics and two sciences.
International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of 32 points, including Maths and two Science subjects
Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) at grade B or above in Computing, Software Development or Computer Games Development including the Maths Calculus module (or Higher Maths at B or above)  
Be legally allowed to work in the UK
Have lived in the UK, Ireland or the European Economic Area (EEA), for at least three years before the start of the apprenticeship. Or have either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and lived in the UK, EEA or Gibraltar for at least three years.
We’ll ask you to give examples to show you’re:
Good at communicating and collaborating with people from different backgrounds
Flexible and resilient
Comfortable solving mathematical problems
Skilled in software programming
A practical thinker with a good understanding of how to use your skills
Able to manage time well
Don’t worry if you don’t have an extensive CV. You can share examples of your passion for data science from anywhere. That might be other work experience, your time in education, volunteering - even times you’ve helped your friends and family out with technical issues.
