The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) is a business unit within DCJ. BOCSAR is responsible for informing the public and government about emerging trends and patterns in crime and the criminal justice system. We do this by releasing statistical reports, publishing research reports, evaluating programs and policies, distributing ad hoc data requests and undertaking both simple and complex statistical and analytical investigations to improve understanding. BOCSAR also build and maintain many statistical databases covering crime, criminal courts, prison, youth detention and reoffending behaviour.
The strength of all BOCSAR's output relies on the quality of our underlying data. We are continuously looking for ways to improve and modernise our computer systems, expand and add value to data holdings, improve the efficiency of our processes all while managing risks associated with sensitive data.
Within BOCSAR a small, tight-knit team is responsible for data system development.
About the role
The Data Systems Development Manager:
Continuously improves BOCSAR's systems including the ongoing expansion and development of data holdings and reporting products.
Develops a strategic vision for BOCSAR's technological future that meets current and emerging business needs; and leads a team of IT specialists to deliver this vision.
About You:
In addition to meeting the essential requirements, you'll demonstrate capabilities in:
Advanced programming experience working with large volumes of data (SQL, Python, SAS an advantage)
Advanced understanding of relational databases (Oracle an advantage)
Experience working on record linkage or complex ETL processes
Professional experience at a senior level in designing and implementing complex data/information systems, strategies and policies
Knowledge of cloud-based technologies (GCP an advantage)
Extensive experience in consulting with business managers, stakeholders and other user groups to deliver strategic and tactical information management solutions
Baseline Security Vetting from NSW Police in order to gain access to protected information requrired for this role. As such, you must be an Australian Citizen to qualify for this position.
It is an essential requirement of the role that successful applicants are fully vaccinated and able to provide acceptable proof of vaccination status.
