Job Description

Kia hiwa rā!

We believe in growing and farming the most sustainable products for the betterment of people and the planet. This is an opportunity for you to join our journey.

Our kaupapa (purpose) is based on the values and vision of Ngāi Tahu iwi and is best represented by the Ngāi Tahu proverb 'when land and water are sustained the people will prosper' Toitū te Marae o Tāne, Toitū te Marae o Tangaroa, Toitū te Iwi.

Ngāi Tahu Farming (NTF) is the kaitiaki (guardian) of the most significant whenua (land) footprint for Ngāi Tahu whānui spanning almost 100,000 ha of farm and forestry land in Te Waipounamu (the South Island).

Ngāi Tahu Farming's Dairy operation currently consists of eight Dairy farms on approximately 2100 hectares of irrigated pasture, and a Dairy Support operation of approximately 720 irrigated hectares of pasture with an additional 550 hectares of mixed cropping at Te Whenua Hou (Eyrewell), half an hour north of Christchurch.

We currently have an opportunity for two Dairy Support Farm Assistants to join our whānau. The focus of these roles will be to support the Dairy Support Farm Manager and Dairy Support Herd Manager in overseeing 2000 R2 heifers and 2200 R1 heifers along with 200 carry over cows and 200 mixed age bulls. Part of the seasonal plan is overseeing a synchronised AI programme for 2000 R2 heifers. Ngāi Tahu Farming has the aspiration to be in the top 10% with our farming practices.

What we can offer the successful applicant?

  • Top quality infrastructure and housing;
  • Farm systems that utilise best practice technologies and target top 20% performance;
  • Great opportunities for learning and career progression;
  • Personal development program with a supportive team environment;
  • Competitive remuneration including Health and Life Insurance.

Our ideal candidate will have:

We look for individuals who have the personality and expertise that can help us adapt and contribute to a circular economy that puts sustainability and people at the heart of everything we do:

  • One to three years farm experience, ideally in young stock and irrigation;
  • A current NZ driver's license;
  • Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and progress;
  • A commitment to Ngāi Tahu Farming's quadruple bottom line;
  • An awareness and understanding of Ngāi Tahu values and a willingness to learn tikanga and te reo Māori.

Ngāi Tahu Farming is committed to kia hoki ora atu; ensuring everyone is home safe every day, so before starting with us, you will go through a range of checks, including drug and alcohol testing.

Nau mai, haere mai, tauti mai!
