Position Type/ Hours:

This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours of work within the Bylaw Services Branch of the Community and Protective Services Department. This position is within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit. This position is located in the community of Fort McMurray, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.

Position Description:

Under general supervision, perform custodial duties to ensure that all assigned facilities and buildings are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for custodial services at all assigned owned/leased facilities.
• Typical custodial functions may include: clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; shampoo carpets; strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; empty and clean ash trays and cigarette urns, wash walls and glass inside facilities; clean, sanitize and restock restroom facilities; clean and disinfect equipment within gyms and other related custodial duties as required.
• Perform housekeeping duties at any municipal leased apartments as required.
• Clean and disinfect public or unsanitary areas using established practices and procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of entrances to the facility including snow removal, application of melting agents, litter removal, etc.
• Responsible for the correct application and use of various chemicals and supplies on various surfaces.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Launder rags, mops, dust mops and other related custodial equipment.
• Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner.
• Collect, sort and dispose of recyclable materials.
• Attend safety meetings and other custodial/building related meetings.
• Perform other duties as required by area/facilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• One (1) year experience in custodial duties and experience using computers.
• Valid Alberta Class Five (5) driver’s licence is required and must be willing to travel to various facilities as needed.
• Ability to acquire and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance is required.
• Due to the work location of this position, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.

You will possess the following:

• Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS).
• Skilled in the operation of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
• Ability to prepare and maintain files related to custodial work.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision and maintain effective working relationships.
• Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis, in all weather and unsanitary conditions (immunizations are strongly recommended).

PL 4

Salary Range:

$36.40 (Casual Rate)

• All CUPE job rates are currently under review and subject to change.

In addition to the rate of pay, we offer:

• an additional bi-weekly payment of $480 which represents a cost of living allowance (pro-rated based on the amount of hours worked)
